Hey
Guys!
I have
been putting this instalment off for a very long time now! Firstly, because I
am not a make-up artist, nor have I studied the art of make-up. Secondly
because I really have only started getting into and learning about make-up
recently (since I started my own blog I have been learning and improving, so
basically over the last 10/11 months). And lastly because everything I have
learnt I have taught and experimented myself through watching various Youtube
videos of many make-up artists. And to be honest I didn’t feel confident enough
to post things on my blog that may mislead you based on something I really
didn’t know much about. I would post a photo on Instagram every now and again
about new products and ask viewers if they would like to hear my opinions on
them. A fellow blogger actually encouraged me to share my opinions on products
as ”you don’t need to be a make-up artist to voice your opinion about a
product.” I fully agreed with her, but I was nervous.
This
may sound so bizarre and strange to some of you (or maybe even everyone)
because it’s expected that as women, it’s our birth right and rite of passage
into womanhood to know about make-up. And that is merely not the case (well at
least for me). I knew the basics, mascara, eye liner and every now and again,
neutral eyeshadow but I hardly ever played around with foundations with fear of
looking “cake-faced” because I really didn’t know much about applications. And
in my wildest dreams, I had no idea what “contouring” and “highlighting” was,
and I didn’t know how to mix and match different eyeshadows together without
looking like a clown. I knew the basics and it got me by just fine. I had never
gotten my make-up professionally done (except for matric dance, and I hated
it!), so naturally I had no idea the power make-up had. Until I watched a few
Youtube videos and discovered that you could use make-up to enhance features of
your face. I was so intrigued! And so an addiction was born and I discovered
this rite of passage haha!
Over the
past 10 or so months I have been building my make-up collection through reviews
and my own experimentation. Most times making some very good purchases and
others some very poor decisions all based on trial and error. It’s also very
difficult watching international make-up artists because some products they
use, we do not have available in South Africa, and some products that are used
are also way over my budget and so I have to find alternatives. I just want to
share my journey of discovering the art of make-up with you guys, what products
have and have not worked for me and what products are super affordable.
Let me know what you think by leaving me a comment down below. And don't
forget to give a follow and a share :)
I hope everybody is having an amazing day
