Rain, Rain Go Away...

Hat - Cotton On | Trench Coat - Forever New | T-Shirt, Heels  & Necklace - Mr Price |
Jeans - Guess | Handbag - Colette by Colette Hayman |
Sunglasses - Prada from Sunglass Hut |
Watch - Michael Kors

The weather has been all sorts of crazy lately, from sunny mornings to rainy afternoons or vice versa, and it sometimes leaves one with a thought of "how should I dress for this?".

I went with the simple "jeans and a t-shirt" combo but spiced it up with a slogan tee! Threw on a trench coat for the rain and a floppy hat for the sun, rolled up my jeans and popped on some heels and I was good to go!

There was two ways with which I styled this combo, this was the one. I decided to break it up into a two part post.

This look is easy and chic for lunch with the girls or for a date with the boyfriend!

My FIRST Blogger Event - The Skip Fashion Exchange!

Jumpsuit & Court Heels - Mr Price | Clutch - Legit | Bangle - Lovisa |
Necklace - Foschini | Watch - Michael Kors.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the last Skip Fashion Exchange for the year! I had read many write ups about the event and was so thrilled when I received my invite! Not only to attend the event but because it was my very FIRST event as a fashion blogger! :) Both excited and nervous I was so grateful to be apart of it!
The event was held at the illustrious The Forum, Turbine Hall. Upon arrival, attendance was checked and we were greeted with a glass of bubbly.
I was also told to "keep your boyfriend on a leash tonight because he may be the ONLY male here" hahaha. That definitely wet to his head quickly lol.
There were several stations ahead with which your items were carefully inspected and selected for the exchange. Each lady was required to bring 3 or more items from their closet which they do not wear anymore, all of which were of high quality and not damaged.
Once the items were inspected, we received a card documenting the amount of items brought and with which we were allowed to exchange for.

From there we proceeded to get our pictures taken and view other little pop up shops on the way to the main hall.
Here I saw some stunning designs and merchandise from our local ladies.

Once we entered the beautifully decorated hall and were seated, the fun really began! The event was MC'd by the stunning Bonang Matheba and entertained by the amazingly talented Shoo Wop Shop. And it didn't stop there! We got to enjoy a delicious three course meal and received some style inspiration for Spring and Summer from a top fashion expert herself, Alexis Chaffe!
Some ladies in the audience even got the chance to walk away with some of the beautifully styled outfits!

Once dinner was completed, IT WAS THE MOMENT WE HAD ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!!!
TIME TO SHOP!!!
Some ladies whom had attended the events before had already started making their way to the back section where all the exchanged items had been kept. I, on the other hand, was not aware of the mad rush towards the clothes and thus had to join the crowd slowly making its way there. Once in, I made my way swiftly towards the colours on my Exchange Card, spotting a few amazing items. I had never thought of my "petiteness" and height as an advantage until this night! It made it so much easier to fit in the small crevices between the masses of ladies swarming the clothing racks and grab the items I had my eyes on!
What a thrill and adrenalin rush it was! And I managed to walk away with some pretty amazing items! :)

The event was beautifully organized and I had so much part-taking in such an event! It was really an amazing and fun-filled evening full of new and exciting experiences! Even my boyfriend had fun! lol
Thanks Skip for such a WOW evening!
If you're looking for something different and a great night out with your partner or girlfriends this event is definitely one to keep in mind!

"Fashion Fades, Only Style Remains."

Crop Top & Skorts - Mr Price | Heels - Spoilt Girls | Handbag - Colette by Colette Hayman |
Watch - Michael Kors | Sunglasses - Prada from Sunglass Hut |
Accessories - Zuri

Yet another one of my all time favourite quotes from Mademoiselle Coco Chanel and following on from one of my previous posts, "Simplicity Is The Keynote Of All True Elegance", I have always maintained that fashion does not lie within the price tag nor does it lie in the label. Fashion can be derived from anywhere and anything, but what really matters is how you style the pieces and how you carry them.

Anyone that knows me will tell you that I find the most wonderful items of clothing in the most strangest of places! Places some would never have even thought of!

There is no hiding that I am a HUGE Mr Price fan! I'm the type of person that "if I can get more for my buck, why not?" and with being a student this plays a large role in how I shop as well. I'm not saying I don't splurge out once in a while and spoil myself. I just have always found that their clothing is value for money and if you style your pieces correctly, you will look like you have just stepped off a page in VOGUE and who will know the difference?!

Take these skorts for instance, they're actually from the Mr Price KIDDIES department! I came across them on the way to the change rooms with an arm full of other clothes to try on when I saw them and thought "OH EM GEE! SKORTS! I have not seen them stocked at Mr Price before! For THIS price I HAVE TO have them!" and so I searched the rack for the largest kiddies size they had and went to try them on hoping they would fit me (and even if they didn't I would find a way to make them  hehe). To my luck they FIT! It fit perfectly around my legs, but the waist was waaaaaay too big! But that's ok, with a little altering they would look perfect! And so I bought them without any hesitation. I just HAD to have them!

If I had not told you this story, where would you have thought my skorts were from? And so the saying goes to show... "Fashion Fades, Only Style Remains."

Short Skorts

A mix between a skirt and shorts, the SKORT, is one of this seasons hottest trends and in this bright, summery colour, I couldn't pass up the opportunity not to snag them!
I paired them with one of my favourite black crop tops (also from Mr Price), black Colette Hayman handbag and black court heels, just to make the colour pop a bit more and add that vibrant summer feel to the outfit. :)

Fashion Has A Way Of Repeating Itself.

Midi Skirt & White Court Heels - Mr Price | Lace Bodysuit - Threads |
Clutch Bag - Vintage | Sunglasses - Prada from Sunglass Hut |
Watch - Michael Kors | Pearl Bracelets - Woolworths

Its crazy at how true this is!
Inspired by the 1950s fashions, the Midi Skirt is BACK! It has a way to maintain that polite, lady-like appearance but still has a way of giving it that unapologetic, flirtatious elegance. It's perfect for any occasion really! This is why it is one of this seasons MUST HAVES!

The trick to pulling off the Midi skirt is balance! Because the skirt is voluminous and covers your legs a bit, it should be balanced out with a loose plain blouse (remember to tuck it in!), crop top or a figure hugging top. Worn with a pair of pointy heels  or even a strappy open sandals to elongate your legs. And remember, if you are short (like me) the length of the midi skirt should be either just above the knee or just below it. If you are tall, well then lucky for you, you have no problems at all! :)

The most important tip to pull off any look really is to have fun with it!

Printed Midi Skirts

I am UH-BSESSED with midi skirts! There's just something about a midi skirt that automatically draws me to them! I think its because they add a "Stepford-wife"look to an outfit! And maybe because they cinch in your waist and flares out at the bottom to give you that hour glass figure :)

This one from Mr Price is absolutely perfect! Not only is it a midi skirt but it incorporates prints as well (which happen to be a combination of my two favourite things right now!). It gave the look a little playful-modern edge to it and I LOVE it! And what better way to bring in that Monochromatic magic! :)

I decided to keep everything else plain because the skirt is so busy and I wanted all attention to focus on that. Therefore I have paired my "Stepford-wife" midi skirt with a white lace bodysuit, white court heels and a white clutch bag  to play along with the whole "Stepford wife-lady like" appeal.

"Simplicity Is The Keynote Of All True Elegance"

Jumpsuit - Legit Fashions | Wedge Shoes - Kelso by Edgars | Felt Hat - Cotton On |
Handbag - Colette by Colette Hayman | Watch - Michael Kors |
Sunglasses - Prada from Sunglass Hut | Bangles - Zuri Jewellery |
Necklace - Foschini | Ear-rings - Mr Price.

Firstly this has got to be one of my MOST favourite quotes from the Queen herself,  Coco Chanel! I absolutely adore this quote because it has many hidden meanings to it depending on how you decipher it.

For me, this quote does not have to only relate to your image but also to our everyday lives such as everyday conversation to spraying on your favourite perfume to shopping!
My motto is "If it looks good on you it doesn't matter where its from or what brand it is or isn't. The secret is in how you style it!". It has been my Holy Grail since I started becoming accustomed to fashion and style. If I see something that I like, or something that looks good on me, I will buy it! I have never been one that will spend R1000s to look good, anybody that knows me will tell you this. The difference lies in how you style your pieces, that will set you apart. Thus keeping it simple and yet still managing to always look elegant! :)

Le Jumpsuit

One of this seasons HOTTEST trends right now is LE JUMPSUIT! and I must say I LOVE IT! They are a definite MUST HAVE this season!
Not only are they so easy and effortless, they still manage to make one look so stylish and chic! Just slip it on and you are ready to go! :)
This orange one in particular has got to be one of my all time FAVES! I purchased it from Legit last Summer and it is still one of my go-to pieces for summer. The material is simply perfect because its not too heavy. Dressed with heels or sandals, it can be worn to a formal or informal event and you will have everyone asking you where you got it from ;).

I have paired my jumpsuit with a nude/tan pair of Kelso wedge heels and my tan felt hat from Cotton On to give a bit of a casual-chic look. My NEW nude Colette Hayman Ariana Tote was the obvious choice for this outfit.
I just have to say I have been on the HUNT for a nude tote for a while now! I had been on the Colette Hayman website and had seen this one and the Nadine Tote. Unfortunately the Nadine had seemed to be sold out everywhere in Jo'burg. So there was no question that this one was simply meant to be! :)
I am quite fussy when it comes handbags, so I had to look for one that would suit every criteria and this one did JUST THAT! It was the perfect shade of nude and the perfect style for me and so I HAD TO buy it!

I also accessorized this outfit with my NEW Zuri bangles which I got on SALE for less 60%. They are so elegant and can be paired with any outfit to make it look extra sassy. The perfect arm candy for Summer. :)
